Fight Cancer. Make Time. > Carrie Boston
Since becoming cancer free, Carrie Boston has continued her trek to cover the Earth before it covers her. Her mantra, "Have suitcase – will travel!” To date, she’s left footprints on 6 continents, 44 countries, 45 states — and counting!
She's climbed Machu Picchu and walked along the Great Wall of China and Masada. She got baptized in the Jordan River and went swimming in the Dead Sea. She got lost in Hong Kong and the French Riviera, golfed in Malaysia, and got caught up in a typhoon in Indonesia. Carrie is a daring explorer at heart.
Thanks to an early mammogram, Carrie’s breast cancer was treatable with a lumpectomy. After going through chemo and radiation therapies, she has been cancer free for the past 18 years.
“I am a prime example of how early detection and education saves lives,” Carrie said. A mother to two sons (and a grandson too), Carrie feels blessed to have had her family by her side as she battled cancer. Taking from her firsthand experience, Carrie makes sure to stay on top of checkups and the latest men’s health updates for her sons.
A now-retired educator, Carrie has had an extensive teaching career. She spent 37 years in Ohio, teaching at the Columbus City School District. She brings skills from her career to proudly advocate for empowering and educating women about the benefits of early detection.
A year after her first diagnosis in 2006, Carrie participated in her first Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Walk, the beginning of her advocacy journey. In 2010, Carrie joined ACS CAN to speak to groups, disseminate cancer literature, raise funds, bring awareness, as well as meet with State and Federal politicians to make fighting cancer a top priority.
Beyond her history as a teacher and continued work as an educator, Carrie has a passion for the arts. Visiting museums, art galleries, dancing, going to theaters, are just some of her many hobbies.
