Healey Signs Bill to Address Breast Cancer Screening Inequities
Legislation will eliminate costly barriers to follow up breast cancer screening
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Around 50 cancer advocates, survivors and their families and caregivers from all over Alabama will gather near the Statehouse on Wednesday, March 6, to meet with lawmakers to ask them to support policies that reduce the burden of cancer, including Medicaid expansion. The event will go from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cancer survivors as well as American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) Government Relations Director Jane Adams will be available for interviews.
The visit is part of ACS CAN’s annual Cancer Action Day, an event that will bring volunteer advocates together to call on the legislature to make cancer policy a priority. This year, more than 30,000 Alabamians are estimated to face a cancer diagnosis. We are asking lawmakers to change that by enacting policies that close the coverage gap and expand healthcare access. Studies show having health insurance is the top indicator of cancer survival.

About ACS CAN
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) advocates for evidence-based public policies to reduce the cancer burden for everyone. We engage our volunteers across the country to make their voices heard by policymakers at every level of government. We believe everyone should have a fair and just opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer. Since 2001, as the American Cancer Society’s nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy affiliate, ACS CAN has successfully advocated for billions of dollars in cancer research funding, expanded access to quality affordable health care, and advanced proven tobacco control measures. We stand with our volunteers, working to make cancer a top priority for policymakers in cities, states and our nation’s capital. Join the fight by visiting www.fightcancer.org.
