Share your cancer story

Do you have a story about trouble accessing care?

Have high out-of-pocket costs, insurer policies, or other obstacles caused you to delay cancer screening? Have you been able to get your doctor recommended cancer screening through a state or federal program like the New York State Cancer Services Program?  Did your routine cancer screen detect yours or a loved one’s cancer at an early stage? Do you have a patient or a loved one who would answer yes to any of these questions?

If you answered yes to any of these questions or if you faced any other obstacles to care, then we want to hear your story. Your story will be used in different aspects during the campaign.

E-mail your Lawmaker

Cancer Services Program - send a message to your lawmakers to ask them to support an increase of $2 Million for the Cancer Services Program (CSP). The CSP provides low income and uninsured New Yorkers access to life saving breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screenings at no cost.

Colorectal Cancer Screening Bill - When it comes to colon cancer screenings, some choose to have a less invasive procedure. But what happens if that screening test comes back positive, and a follow-up colonoscopy is required? In New York, it might not be covered by insurance. Multiple studies have shown that individuals are less likely to seek health services, including preventive screenings, when they must pay for those services out-of-pocket. We need your voice! Please send a message to your lawmakers today to reduce financial barriers to colorectal cancer screenings.

It’s as easy as 1-2-3:

Step 1: Call Senate Finance Chair Senator Liz Krueger at (518) 455-2297.

Step 2: Leave the following message. You’re always welcome to add your personal story, but it’s not required.
