Jamie Dunphy Joins American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network to Direct Government Relations in Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore.—Jamie Dunphy joined the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) as the Oregon government relations director, bringing a significant background in local, state and federal government experience. In his role, Dunphy will lead ACS CAN’s policy agenda in Oregon to advance legislation and public policies to fight cancer.

Most recently, Dunphy was the senior policy director of late-Portland City Commissioner Nick Fish, who passed away in January after a two-year fight with stomach cancer. Prior to that, Dunphy worked for U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley in his Portland office.

"I’m excited to join the ACS CAN team and work with the amazing staff and volunteers to help advance legislation and policies that we know can prevent and reduce cancer rates and death. This horrible disease ended the previous chapter of my career and I can’t think of a better way to honor the legacy of my friend and mentor Commissioner Nick Fish," Dunphy said.

Dunphy attended high school in Northeast Portland and received degrees from Portland Community College and Portland State University. He lives in Southeast Portland’s Lents neighborhood with his wife, 8-year-old daughter and multiple pets including dogs, a cat and chickens. 

About 23,300 Oregonians will be diagnosed with cancer this year and nearly 8,300 people will die from the devastating disease.
