ACS CAN Applauds Governor Cuomo for Including Menthol in Flavored E-Cigarette Rules
ALBANY, NY – September 26, 2019 – Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that he is including menthol in his rule prohibiting the sale of flavored e-cigarettes.
American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) Senior New York Government Relations Director Julie Hart released the following statement:
“We are encouraged by Governor Cuomo’s action recognizing the dangers posed to our youth by flavored e-cigarettes, including menthol. The tobacco industry uses flavored tobacco products to lure kids into a lifetime of addiction. Furthermore, the tobacco industry has a long history of targeting the African American community with its menthol products, and exempting menthol would allow this predatory practice to continue. We look forward to strengthening this measure when lawmakers return to session and urge them to pass legislation to restrict all flavored tobacco products including cigars and menthol cigarettes to protect all New Yorkers.”
