Award Purpose
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) presents Staff Advocacy Leadership Awards each year to outstanding Grassroots Managers, Government Relations Directors, National/Field Professionals, and ACS partners who have excelled in some way over the course of the year. In addition, the State Advocacy Team of the Year is awarded annually to the top combined volunteer/staff team.
Nomination Criteria
To be nominated for one of the Staff Advocacy Leadership awards, an individual/team should have excelled in activities related to building or sustaining their state's volunteer structure and/or elevating the profile of advocacy, ACS CAN and its public policy agenda. Stated accomplishments in the nomination might demonstrate:
- Advancing the volunteer structure
- Demonstrating exceptional recruitment/retention/recognition abilities
- Demonstrating a successful team approach to advancing our efforts
- Excelling at ACS CAN fundraising efforts
- Effectively communicating the ACS CAN public policy agenda to the media and elsewhere
- Participating in and/or leading local/state/federal coalitions in support of ACS CAN's public policy agenda
- Promoting advocacy at Relay and/or other ACS events
- Promoting advocacy and/or ACS CAN within other ACS departments
Nominations for the State Advocacy Team of the Year may be submitted through either the Volunteer Advocacy Leadership Award Nomination page or through the Staff Advocacy Leadership Award Nomination page.
