Discurso del Estado de la Nación: Una oportunidad para elevar el compromiso de la nación con la Misión contra el Cáncer conocida como “Cancer Moonshot”

WASHINGTON, DC7 de marzo de 2024 — Antes del discurso del presidente Biden sobre el Estado de la Nación, la Red de Acción Contra el Cáncer de la Sociedad Americana Contra el Cáncer (ACS CAN, por sus siglas en inglés) insta al presidente a enfatizar la necesidad de un continuo apoyo bipartidista para aumentar la inversión federal para la investigación del cáncer en los Institutos Nacionales de la Salud (NIH, por sus siglas en inglés) y el Instituto Nacional del Cáncer (NCI, por sus siglas en inglés), así como el financiamiento de programas de prevención en los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC, por sus siglas en inglés). Además, ACS CAN insta al presidente a finalizar sin demora la normativa de la Administración de Alimentos y Medicamentos (FDA, por sus siglas en inglés) que prohíbe la venta de mentol en los cigarrillos.

Philip R. O’Brien Named American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Cancer Votes National Ambassador

Milwaukee attorney Philip R. O’Brien has accepted the role of Cancer Votes National Ambassador for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), the advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society (ACS). This role is an expansion of O’Brien’s current commitment to ACS CAN as a member of its national Board of Directors since 2019. Cancer Votes is ACS CAN’s nonpartisan electoral program, a public education avenue through which cancer issues are elevated as a key priority during election cycles. As National Ambassador, Phil O’Brien will serve as a brand leader, seeking to draw high levels of engagement from volunteers, the media and the advocacy and business communities.

Fifth Circuit to Hear Oral Arguments in Case of Braidwood Management v. Becerra

Today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit will hear oral arguments in Braidwood Management v. Becerra, a case that threatens access to evidence-based preventive services without cost-sharing as required under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The services at-risk include those recommended by scientific experts at the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

New Paper Finds Barriers to Equitable Discovery and Implementation of Pharmacogenomic Testing in Cancer Care Despite its Power to Improve Patient Outcomes

A new paper released today in the Journal of Clinical Oncology finds that while incorporating pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing into cancer care can help improve patient outcomes, barriers to PGx testing, discovery, and implementation are impacting its adoption and creating disparities that impact diverse populations.

American Cancer Society Researcher Testifies Before Congress; Advocates for the SCREENS for Cancer Act and the Women and Lung Cancer Research and Preventive Services Act.

Dr. Christina Annunziata, the Senior Vice President of Extramural Discovery Science at the American Cancer Society, testified today before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce’s Subcommittee on Health in support of the Screening for Communities to Receive Early and Equitable Needed Services (SCREENS) for Cancer Act and the Women and Lung Research and Preventive Services Act.
