Advocates to Gather at General Assembly for Cancer Action Day

RALEIGH, N.C. – Around 50 cancer advocates, survivors, caregivers and their families from all over North Carolina will gather in Raleigh on Wednesday, May 1, to meet with lawmakers to ask them to support policies that reduce the burden of cancer in the Tar Heel State.

Legislation Introduced to Increase New Jerseyans’ Access to Biomarker Testing, the Key to Precision Medicine

Last week, legislation that seeks to improve New Jerseyans’ access to biomarker testing was introduced in the Legislature. Biomarker testing helps connect cancer patients to the right treatment at the right time, often resulting in improved outcomes and quality of life. In some cases, biomarker testing may provide information that enables patients to forgo ineffective treatments and eliminate the potentially harmful, life-altering side effects of those treatments, which could also result in reduced health care costs.

Cancer Advocates Urge Colorado Legislators to Take Critical Step to Connect Patients with Most Effective Treatment Options


DENVER, COLO. — MARCH 13, 2024 — American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) volunteers from across Colorado convened at the State Capitol on Wednesday. They urged lawmakers to pass SB 124, which if enacted would ensure  biomarker testing is covered by more insurance plans, including Health First Colorado, when supported by medical and scientific evidence.

State Legislator Honored for Opening Door to Precision Medicine and Targeted Therapies

SANTA FE, NEW MEX. – February 22, 2024 – State Representative Joy Garratt was honored with the ‘Legislative Champion Award’ by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN)  during a luncheon, Thursday. This award is the highest honor given by the organization. Garratt was recognized for her leading role in expanding access to biomarker testing in New Mexico. She served as a lead sponsor for HB 73 during the 2023 legislative session.
