Colorectal cancer remains the second leading cause of cancer death for men and women combined in our country – a fact that’s difficult to accept given that it’s one of a limited number of cancers that can be prevented through screening.
To achieve our goal of eliminating cancer, we need to actively address health disparities in the public policies for which we advocate.
I join the rest of my ACS CAN team in renewing our personal commitment to fighting cancer in recognition of World Cancer Day.
For the past nine years, I’ve had the honor and pleasure of serving as president of ACS CAN. I want to extend a final thank you to every ACS CAN volunteer and staff member who has dedicated time, energy and expertise to our cause.
Two decades have passed since states reached a landmark legal settlement that required major tobacco companies to pay states more than $246 billion over time as compensation for the health costs related to the suffering, death and disease caused by their dangerous products.
