Adding E-cigarettes to Allegheny County’s Smoke-free Law a Victory for Public Health

When asked if they favored increasing tobacco taxes to help balance the budget, 70 percent of respondents said yes – with 46 percent indicating they strongly favor the proposal.

 TRENTON, NJ – February 28, 2017 –Today Governor Christie delivered his annual budget message.

This statement can be attributed to Hilary Schneider, director of government relations in Maine for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), in response to portions of Governor LePage’s biennial budget proposal related to the Department of Health and Human Services:

Public health and policy experts gathered at Duke-Raleigh Hospital to discuss the potential impact of implementing smoke-free policies at the county and municipal levels in North Carolina.

Leaders in the Texas Legislature took bold action to protect kids from tobacco addiction and save lives by introducing bipartisan legislation to raise the sale age of tobacco products in the state to 21.

Washington state lawmakers are considering legislation to allow smoking in cigar bars and require workers in these establishments to be smokers as a condition of employment. 

Nearly a hundred cancer patients, survivors and caregivers from across the state rode the rails on a whistle stop-style campaign train ride to the state Capitol in Santa Fe today to meet with lawmakers and gain support for cancer-fighting policies.

The long overdue increase in the tobacco tax will keep thousands of New Mexico kids from smoking, help thousands of adults quit, save the state millions spent on health care, and raise millions more in needed revenue.
